Small popup window titled "gcasDTServHolder" does not
automatically close on startup. Options listed on the
window are systrayshow, systrayhide, systraynormal,
systrayscanning, systrayupdating. PC is XP sp2 with no
other issues. If I close the window manually, the
program terminates as well. I have tried removing and
reinstalling, but same problem persists.

This is a bug--have you always seen this? If not, have you changed
something about your video driver or destop setup, or loaded any powertoy
applets?

Nothing has been changed, the error happens about 80% of
the time. I have an ASUS AGP card with NVIDIA drivers
and software loaded, though I disabled the startup
programs in MSCONFIG. Re-enabling them only result in
annoying NVIDIA apps, with no apparent effect on MS
Antispyware.

Hello Ted,

Try this:

Goto: Start/Control Panel/Add-Remove programs/MSAS
then click on support info!!!
Then click on repair!

I think that there may be an Nvidia applet of some sort which is one factor
in making this window become visible.

If you really want to disable real-time protection, it is harder than it
should be--one way is to follow the "workaround" paragraph in this KB
article:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/892375 End users may be prompted to allow or
block administrative actions that originate from a central management tool
after they install Windows AntiSpyware (Beta) on a computer that is managed
by Systems Management Server 2003

This should all go away with beta2, which will arrive sometime later this
year.

Sure is...

Check for this: In the NView Desktop Manager, Windows tab in the Window
control section there is a checkbox - Prevent windows from opening
off-screen. Uncheck, restart MS Antispyware and then, if desired, reenable.
Might need to do this each reboot.

It doesn't happen all the time because it depends on the NView app
initializing before Antispyware.

Other multi-monitor display adapters (or capable) may have a similar
property. Some also have the ability to exclude specific programs from their
settings.

Thanks much--that setting is very clearly labelled, and it's easy to see
what is happening. The "off-screen" window is something the beta1
programmers used, and it won't be there in beta2, which should be out in the
next few months, so this one won't be around for long.
