GAWD I'VE BECOME TERMINALLY STUPID!!

I used to be able to handle this stuff without crying for help but:

1. after screwing around with the network connections on my laptop I've
managed to get an irremovable "log on to windows" window every time I start
my computer.

2 months later:

I had a Hard Drive Failure on my Desktop and now - after putting a new one
in - I can no longer set up a connection to my laptop through my Linksys
Router - which I had functioning before.

After screwing around with it for an hour I now have managed to duplicate
the "log on to windows" window that I had on my laptop - but still no
connection to my laptop. Why is this so dificult ? I've tried every damn
option possible to make a network connection through my router to my
laptop - I did this before but I'v e worked at this for hours and nothing
seems to make the connection - what am I missing.

Yeah - will look through it - but I'm beginning to think Microsoft sucks -
or I'm stupid - NO - Microsoft sucks!!!!

ensure that the XP Firewall or other software firewall is turned off.

Why do you blame Microsoft for your inability to use your
hardware properly. Possibly you should be mad at the
company who manufactured your router and gave you a crappy
driver for it. But hey it is easier to blame MS for all
of the Worlds problems.
