Gaming with an ATI TV Wonder USB 2.0

Hey everybody, I was wondering if anyone has had success hooking up
game consoles (PS2, Gamecube) to their ATI TV Wonder USB 2.0? I tried
but quickly discovered that there's about a half-second lag that is
annoying at best, and makes the game unplayable at worst. This is with
ATI's native software, even with the "Tivo" functionality turned off.

I know there are 3rd party applications out there, such as the TV
plugin for winamp. Does anybody know which, if any, are less prone to
this kind of lag? Any other advice on how I might be able to game on
my rig would be welcome!

Why would you want to hook up consoles to the TV wonder?

Umm... because I don't have the money/space for a regular TV, but I'd
still like to play my video games?

Oh, I see. Then, your best bet is to buy a VGA converter for your consoles.
Then, you can directly hook them to your monitor. The converter is fairly
cheap.

That's an interesting thought... but it seems the boxes that convert
from composite to VGA are all in the $80-100 price range, about as much
as what I already paid for the TV Wonder! There are simple cables out
there that go from VGA -to- Composite... but I don't think those would
work, would they? Surely the signal needs to be converted somehow?

At any rate, I'd still like an answer to the original question, if
anybody has one... is there any video player out there that you could
play video games on?

IIRC, the lag started, with the AIW, after installing drivers from March 05
release. You could try installing older drivers and MMC. Have no idea what
that would be with your card though. Don't actually know that it ever went
digital. If your sound is affected by line-in or aux it's analog. If wave
it's digital.

Again with the AIW, the lag started when they went to digital audio. When
older versions are used a cable between the card and sound card is required
to get sound from the tuner. If you only want to use the console it could be
plugged directly into the sound card.

Well, for what it's worth, I FINALLY managed to get WinampTV running
on my machine; surprisingly (and quite happily) the lag is almost non-
existent, and I'm still using digital audio! So it must have
something to do with ATI's terrible drivers. So for anybody else who
is wondering, it's perfectly possible to play video games on your USB
tuner card, just use WinampTV!
