gameport on XP pro/98SE dual boot

I've got an old gameport device I'd really rather not replace so would like
to use this on my XP pro/98SE dual boot system.As XP has difficulty with
gameports I figured a dual boot system would sort this out.

Unfortunatly it's not recognised in 98SE on dual boot system but is
recognised on a stanalone 98SE machine.

Which gameport ?, Technology moves so fast, that devices just a
couple of years old become obsolete. Gameports are like scanners.
Trying to use old scanners, especially Parallel port ones aren't worth
the effort - cheaper/easier to just replace with USB.
XP has very stringent protections against any kind of "Direct" access
to hardware & that breaks allot of older devices.
You might want to post in one of the Gamer boards, or Google for
your specific model with XP in the search criteria.

It's the gameport on my Creative pci 128 sound card.

A dual boot Windows 98SE has nothing different than a regular boot Windows
98SE. As long as the correct drivers are correctly installed, it should
work. Did you install the PCI 128 drivers and did the gameport drivers get
installed?

Do a google search for userport.zip, which is neat application
that allows direct access to the hardware on NT/2K/XP. I can read
the game port switch on my XP machine using debug, so it should
allow older gameport applications to work.

Put userport.zip in a folder, double click the zip file, and it
will make a couple of folders. In one is the userport.exe
application. Double click on it, click start, click exit, and you
should be good to go wit the defaults. You don't have to run it
again unless you want to change the hardware memory address you
want access to.
