FyTek PDF File Save

Has anyone tried and successfully used this freeware program?

PDF File Save purports to be a program that allows one to save a PDF
form with the free Adobe Reader.

I could not get it to work properly, but I have quite a few PDF-related
programs and there might have been a conflict.

So I'd be interested in reading about someone else's experience with it.

Thanks.

Did you use Adobe Reader Speed-up AKA Reader Speedup? I'd bet that if
you did, that might cause problems since it removes plugins that might
be important for PDF File Save to work.

==== If you get "PDF Creator" from...
http://sourceforge.net/projects/pdfcreator/ , you can just print to a
PDF and save it.............
and if you get the latest version of " Foxit Reader" you can type on
lines and then print to PDF and save the filed in PDF's....=========

Hi,
PDF File Save [...]

I would like to test it, but it seems that it opens the PDF documents by
using the file associations instead of running Adobe Acrobat. Because I'm
using Foxit Reader, PDF File Save won't work for me even if I use the file
menu.

Does anybody know another way?

Denis

I know that trick, but thanks for the reply. As far as I understood PDF
File Save, you can save your formular data for future use. I find that
useful and would like to use the feature, but without affecting Foxit
Reader. My question was if it would be possible to use PDF File Save with
my current configuration.

Of course I could use my OCR programm to get the text. ;-) But that would
be too much hassle. So if it's not possible, it's not possible. Then I'll
have to wait until somewhen in the distant future, when Foxit puts a
Typewriter save function in the free version. :)

After playing around with PDF File Save, I got it to work after all

.. . . sort of.

It behaves somewhat like an old car on a very cold morning. It takes a
bit of patience and determination to get it up and running.

I suppose that's part of the reason why the company doesn't charge to
download the program.

Unless you absolutely loathe Adobe Reader (and I can understand why you
might), you really should associate your PDF files with Adobe Reader and
use Foxit as a secondary reader. There are too many features of PDF
that Foxit doesn't support, Acro Forms being one of them.

ok, seems I have to do without the feature. ;-)

For 99% of the files I have, Foxit Reader does the same but a lot faster (I
had my problems with the utility to deactivate Adobe Reader plugins, so I
stopped using it). If there's a file with special features, I can use
rightclick, "Open with -> Adobe Reader". The other way round wouldn't make
sense while the ratio is 1:99. But you're right, for special features,
Adobe Reader is the better or only solution.

I tought the feature of PDF File Save could be useful when using PDF forms
without (regardless of using Adobe Reader) the possibility to enter data.
But it seems that PDF File Save is not the right program for me.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Hi PDFrank,

Yes, PDF File Save will probably only work when you have Reader
associated as your PDF viewer. It's actually using Reader in a web
browser to perform the submit and save so if the viewer (Foxit for
example) doesn't support form fill then it won't work. Also, you'll
need to have Reader set to open PDFs in a browser window, which not
everyone does.

For these reasons we decided we'd simply give it away rather than
charge for it. But it should work as long as you make the settings
described above. Still less expensive than buying a copy of Acrobat.

I hope this is not an insensitive question, but isn't Adobe likely to be
ticked off over a software company using THEIR program as a plug-in to
enable the saving of PDF forms?

.. . . sort of 'hoisting' them with their own 'petard'?

Perhaps...but if they are, they haven't come to us about it.

But it's really the same as submitting a PDF form to a web site and
capturing the data. The "website" in this case is just the local
machine. The free Reader isn't actually saving the PDF (like when
document rights have been applied to a PDF).

You don't have to use Reader, though I'm not sure what (if any)
alternatives are currently available that allow form fill and web
posting.
