Fuzzy fonts etc

I`m a little concerned, the sharpness and focus in Vista seem to be lacking,
also I am getting headaches when using it for a while on the internet on
forums. Could be the recent heat, maybe not !

Compared with XP it definately has not got the clear focus on fonts and
seems a little fuzzy. X1600 graphic card so not bad. I have also tried the
onboard graphics to same effect.

I`ll try to do a couple of screenshots later to make sure it isn`t me !

Vista uses a font rendering system called ClearType, it was optional and
default off in XP, it is now optional default on.
Right click the desktop and select personalize.
Select visual appearance
At the bottom of the window open classic appearance properties.
Click the effects button
Select Standard instead of ClearType.

Personally I much prefer ClearType rendering though I agree that the name is
a little misleading.

There is a tool PowerToy Tuner for tweaking ClearType on this link.

Hi Mike tried that but it didn`t seem to help, I use the same monitor for XP
and Vista via a KVM, if it was Vista on it`s own it`s possible I may be able
to set it up just for that. Howether I still feel the fonts are fuzzy, this
may of course be an operator hardware error, my hardware is getting a little
old now ! <cry icon>

There is also an option in Personalize Adjust font size (DPI).
96DPI Default 120DPI Large or Custom
I tried 120 on my ViewSonic 1600x1200 monitor and that really did look
fuzzy.

The only other thing I can think of is your graphic card drivers might be
using Anti-Aliasing.
The ATI Beta 2 Control Centre allows you to adjust this, but I wouldn’t
install the ATI drivers specially. I haven’t noticed any improvement over
the default Microsoft drivers, and the ATI hotkeys function has caused me a
few unscheduled reboots.

My fonts were fuzzy too until I switched from the default font to Verdana.
It's very clear now.

The default font with Vista looks terrible with ClearType off. They're
putting too much money on people using LCDs. There are still a lot of CRT
users out there, including me. Change the font to Tahoma - the one used a
lot in XP for everything but the title bar. Change the title bar to
trebuchet and then you'll pretty much be using the same fonts as XP. Make
the fonts larger if needed.

I have not experienced any differences with the Ati drivers than the MS ones
either on my X1600 PRO, except that I get the ever so bloated Catalyst
Control Center. (Which I need to use to adjust the brightness on my
monitor.)

What, you don't like this new Segoe UI font - supposed to be the
dog's danglies for small on-screen text strings?
