Hello Everybody,

I was wondering if you guys can help me out with a little
problem that I have with installing the USB 2.0 driver
for XP Pro. I installed the hardware a while back, but I
just realized that it may not be running @ 2.0 speeds.
So I went to the device manager and looked under
Universal Serial Bus controllers and sure enough there
was no mention of USB 2.0. There is a NEC PCI to USB
Enhanced Host Controller (B1) that keeps on installing
everytime I unistall all the components for the 5 port
USB 2.0 (I also have a 2 port USB 1.1). What else... The
installation disk that came with the USB contains a .exe
file which blcks me from using the "Have Disk" option
when I want to search for the driver myself. I've been
trying to solve this problem for a few hours now but to
no avail and let's hope USB 2.0 doesn't mean NEC PCI to
USB Enhanced Host Controller.

If the word Enhanced appears, it IS using the USB2.0 drivers.... they are
included in SP1.

oh really? thanks! It's kinda odd though cuz when i
transfer files from my cpu to my mass storage device, it
usually takes 60 secs+ for the last 10 secs just to
finish...

I suspect your speed issue may be related to one I had with transferring
files from my digital camera. Why did it take 100% of the CPU just to copy
files to the hard drive? I thought it was just USB being designed poorly, or
a driver problem, but when I moved to a newer computer with SATA the problem
went away completely. Serial ATA, unlike IDE, uses virtually no CPU for hard
drive operations. For this reason (and a few others) you may want to switch
to SATA if you have the option, and definitely look for it as a feature next
time you buy a new computer.
