Function relating to merged cells

Does anyone know a way of copying data from one worksheet to a secon
worksheet (within the same workbook) where the information on the firs
sheet is text but the cell is merged (across 5 colunmns) and th
information is required to end up in one cell on workbook 2

Copy, followed by Edit, Paste Special, Values (or Formulas)? Of course
you'd lose all formatting not just the merge.
