hi, I have given my laptop to my partner, but it needs to be returned to
factory settings as it is so slow and has so much on it he doesn't need, I
have tried system restore, but obviously will only let me go back a couple of
months. Sorry I am not a wiz with these things

Laptop...

When it was originally purchased - it would have come with a method to
restore back to 'as purchased' settings. You have to find those
instructions and follow them and/or contact the manufacturer. (Even just
visiting the web page of the manufacturer and searching their FAQs would
likely give you a hint of an answer.)

Each restoration method for each manufacturer can be very different. If you
are lucky - you will have the actual installation media and you can format
it and install everything from scratch - although, that would take more time
and be a bit more trouble for a non-experienced user than a
'restoration/recovery' method (automated.)
