You could try disabling system restore, deleting all restore points, then
re-enabling system restore:
Start> Control Panel> System Restore tab> Check, "Turn off system restore">
Apply> Yes, (All existing restore points will be deleted, and you will not
be able to track or undo changes to your computer, so make sure that you
only click on, "Yes", if you are certain that the computer is running
properly NOW)> Uncheck, "Turn off System Restore", (You can, after that
point, move the, "Disk space to use", slider to allocate whatever amount of
disk space you would like like System Restore to use - in larger hard
drives, the full 12% can use up GBs - I set mine to use about 3GB)> Apply>
OK> Close Control Panel.
I hope this helps

I ran system restore several times, and now have no space left on the hard
drive. A file 'System Volume Information' now occupies over 15 GB of space.
How can I recover the lost drive space.
