Fuji Camera installs on D: or E: drive

The camera is a Fuji Finepix 2600. Following manufacturer's instructions
results in the camera being installed as a drive instead of a UBS device. Is
anyone aware of a solution? The installation process also creates an error
making my cd drive inaccessible and indicates an I/O error as the reason.
The only fix I have found for the resulting cd drive problem is to install
another cd drive. I have repeated the process several times.

Help!

USB cameras usually install as a drive in "my computer", so I wouldn't think
there is anything wrong with that. If windows has already assigned a drive
letter for your CDROM then windows should assign a new drive letter.
You can adjust these by going to "disk management" and assigning a different
drive letter. If you right click "my computer" and go to "manage" then you
will see "disk management" right clicking the appropriate drive will allow
you to assign a different letter. With the camera connected give it a letter
other than your CD drive.

Like Neil said most cameras install has a removal drive, and it will
take the next available drive letter. Is yours picking the same drive
letter as the CD? If it is it is not normal and you could change the
drive letter of the CD which can cause problems sometimes with Windows
install.

neil,

Thanks for your reply.

The camera is installed e: if the cd drive is on d:. Neither device works.
The cd drive gives the inaccessible message due I/O error.
The camera will not download pictures. The camera appears under ubs drives
in device manager with the symbol indicating an error. Trouble shooting
using windows xp tools or autofix.exe, downloaded from windows and suggested
by Fuji doesn't produce the desired results.

This is making me crazy. If you or DrJoel or anyone thinks of anything
else, please let me know. I have to connect a different cd drive to recover
cd drive function.

Still "desperate in cherokee"

Is the CD a USB drive also? If it is remove it and try the camera alone.
If it works, plug in the drive and see what happens.
