I hope someone can help me. I am unable to access
ftp sites. Everytime I enter either of the site
addresses, IE freezes up showing only the hourglasss and
I have to exit Explorer to get out of it. Then a window
appears asking me if I want to send a message to MS. I
have changed from active to passive on the advanced
options and turned off my firewalls and other Mcaffee
services but nothing works. I've been trying to get back
into my folders without luck. I have a modem and had my
ISP troubleshooter go to the sites with no problem so it
is definitely something in my computer. I bought a new
computer (Dell) since last using the sites and I formerly
used Windows 98 when I was actively working on them. Is
it the XP? Please help! I'm a teacher and I have to get
my assignments posted - I'm desperate.

I have to get my assignments posted - I'm desperate.

You don't need to use IE to do FTP transfers.
Use the FTP client in a command window.

If that doesn't work it could indicate that the problem was in the
protocol stack, which could imply malware.

Is it the XP?

Which XP and what maintenance?

If this is XP Pro I would appreciate it if you would load ipseccmd
from its Support Tools so you can try

ipseccmd show filters

In any case I would also be interested in whether this command
shows anything when you have the problem:

netsh interface ip show type=LSP

E.g. check the box "Internet Explorer cannot display some web sites..."
and look at the open entries in the Results section.
