FTP with MIE6

I'm finding the only way I can FTP files to my webspace is to switch windows
firewall off. I guessed there must be a way round this and found a place to
add an ftp site to the firewall settings and I think this worked once, but
now can only do it with firewall off again. I have another PC at home in
England (I'm in France) that works fine without switching the firewall off,
so there must be a way?

Control Panel > Internet Options > Advanced tab > Use passive FTP > tick.

Have you tried adding the FTP client software to the "exceptions" list in
Windows XP sp2 firewall? It may enable the application to work at least
partially if not faultlessly.

Yes did that and it worked but then subsequently it doesn't.
