FTP Problems With Windows Ultimate & Asus WL-500G Deluxe Router

Could it be possible my router is not compatible using FTP with Vista? I have
tried everything and exhausted all my options. I have tried Windows Explorer
method, CuteFTP, FlashFXP, Bullet Proof FTP, Passive mode, active mode,
checking and unchecking the boxes in the Internet Explorer. None of these
methods seem to work. I just keep timing out of the FTP. This is what I got
from CuteFTP:

ERROR:> [2/19/2007 1:05:46 PM] Can't read from control socket. Socket
error = #10060.
ERROR:> [2/19/2007 1:05:46 PM] Failed to establish data socket.

I know for a fact that when I use Windows XP, FTP works fine, my router
works fine and I know that these FTP websites I'm trying to access work fine.
However, when I do a direct connection to my modem Vista can access the FTP
sites but when my PC is connected to the router it can't access the FTP sites
and times out or gives some kind of data error. I have tried to port forward
port 21 and every other port I can think of that needs data transfers. I have
disabled all firewalls that are installed including Windows Firewall and the
built in firewall in the router. Nothing seems to work. The only thing that I
can think of is it's an incompatability problem with either Vista or my
router the Asus WL-500G Deluxe. If anyone else has any options I'm willing to
try it. Otherwise nothing only HTTP works and FTP does not work in Vista for
me. I have no options left to try.

Do you have the latest firmware for your router? Any other connection
problem, or just FTP issues?

Windows Explorer does not work. I have already tried this method as I have
used the "Search Feature" and found other people saying to use Windows
Explorer. Explorer does not work. It just times out. As for my router, it is
updated to the latest firmware. I can not update it anymore. The only issue I
have is with FTP, HTTP works fine. I can access webpages fine but when trying
to access anything through FTP with FTP Clients, Firefox, etc... it just
doesn't work. It times out and gives a data socket error in CuteFTP. No
program I use will FTP properly regardless of my settings in my router or the
type of program I use. I am using all the latest software, drivers, bios,
firmware for my PC. At first I thought I did something wrong when I first
installed Vista. So I ended up reinstalling a fresh install to see if it
would fix my FTP problem. I am now on my fresh reinstall and it doesn't fix
my FTP problem.
