FTP 'listing of pages' very slow

When I publish my site with FTP, FP2003 takes an eternity to 'list pages on
server'. I can manually drag-and-drop the files over onto the server fine,
but this is no more efficient than using an FTP client (which I must
recommend 'SmartFTP' - the best client I've found). I would like to be able
to let Frontpage publish only changed files, but this is currently
impossible.

Although FP2003 has improved FTP support, it is not a FTP client w/ all the rich features of FTP client software

Fair enough - I've just given up one FP2003 FTP - it just doesn't work good
enough.
