I would like to upload information from a remote computer
at my office to my home office computer. Must I purchase
software to do this or is there a free ftp site available
to do an upload and a download without having to load new
software on either computer?

I believe you need IIS setup and running in order to use XP as an FTP server. Perhaps one of the
MVPs, Jeffrey or Bill can correct me if I am wrong on that. Open "Help & Support" and search on
"IIS" for help doing that.

Otherwise if one of the boxes is running XP Pro look at using Remote Desktop. You can map remote and
local drives and simply copy/cut-n-paste between machines.

Another option is to setup a VPN server on an XP Pro/Home box if you simply want to access folders
and files...

All of this is built-in to the XP OS...

I'd strongly recommend using RD or a VPN connection.

If Brian wants to use FTP, you are correct: IIS needs to be installed
(add/remove programs, and only on XP Pro) and FTP installed as a piece of
IIS.

Anyone installing IIS and FTP on XP Pro needs to have an in-depth
understanding of the security issues involved. The machine needs to be
patched to date with critical updates from WindowsUpdate, and you need to
run the Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer tool and follow its
recommendations for locking down IIS, including running other recommended
tools. Not a quick and easy thing to do.
