FTP and protected folders

When I try to FTP from my home PC to my work PC I can access the
"Public" folder but not my own. There was no problem under XP, so I
suspect Vista has added a few tricks as far as protection is concerned.
Can somebody please point me to the right direction?

Hmm, accessing my own home directory by ftp works fine, for me!

I assume you mean your work PC is running Vista? Are they Vista PCs, at each
end of the connection? Did the problem occur after you upgraded your work
machine?

By default, only c:\inetpub\ftproot is available under ftp, so I guess you
have already created virtal directories for the Public and User folders? How
do you try to reach your home folder?

Do you get any error messages?

You could try turning off the UAC (User Account Control) in Control Panel,
User Accounts and see if that helps, but make sure and turn it back on after
you send your files.

I haven't created any virtual directories, and I don't even know what
they are!!

When I was running XP at work, I just logged onto the PC and could
access all folders.

What troubles me is that, when I right-click on the c:\users\Public
folder and open the security tab there is a lot fewer "security
measures" than in users\Daniel Royer.

either using a 3rd party ftp service on your work PC; or you are connecting
to the work PC using some protocol other than ftp.

How do you connect to your work PC? For example, do you go to a command
prompt on your home machine, and issue a command like "ftp
royerspc.unige.ch"? Or what?

Apologies for all the questions; but I think we'll need to understand the
scenario, in order to solve the problem.

I use the FTP extension for Firefox. Worked perfectly under XP.

Ah-hah. Right. In that case ... sorry, I have no idea :-(

I have Firefox installed as my default browser, but I don't use the ftp
extension (CrossFTP, perhaps?).

When I ftp to my Vista desktop machine using command-line ftp and Vista's
built-in ftp server, I can freely browse directories, as long as I have
defined them in my ftp server. I have no problem reaching my home folder via
ftp.

I downloaded Filezilla and everything works fine: I can access from my
home PC (XP) all of my folders on my work PC (vista home premium).
