FSMO Roles

I have 2 DC's in my domain. One is running Windows 2000 server and the other
Windows 2003 with Exch 2003. My problems is that each DC think it holds the
FSMO roles. If I connect to on server using NTdsutil and transfer the roles
the other server does not see the changes even after replication and will
have itself as the only master of the roles. Is there anyway to make the two
DC's to become "aware" of one another so that the roles are on a single DC? I
was thinking of demoting the 2000 DC but wanted to see if there was another
way to correct the problem

Thanks

Hi Quinn

Sounds very much like replication (at some level) isn't working correctly.
If it's been this way for some time, you may be on the right track. Demote
the 2000 DC, seize all the FSMO roles over to the 2003 DC, clean up the
metadata if the demotion doesn't go cleanly and then re-introduce the 2000
DC.
