Steph

I have 2 computers at home, connected to a hub, which is connected to a
cable modem.
My computer is running winxp prof, my wife's is running win2000 prof. Both
OS are completely up to date with windows update.

The problem: I can browse my wife's computer from mine, and use the printer
which is connected to her computer and set to share. However, she can see my
computer in Network/computers near me, but when she tries to browse any
shared folder on my computer, it says "\\ (my computer name) is not
accessible. Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon
type at this computer"

I have added her to my users with "power users" privileges.

When trying to install the printer connected to my computer as a network
printer on her computer, the printer does not show up in the network
printers list.

The problem persists with my windows xp firewall and her zonealarm firewall
switched off.

The other strange issue is that I can only browse her computer if we both
have IPX/SPX installed and bound to File and Printer Sharing. I can't browse
her computer or use her printer, and she can't even see my computer in
"Computers near me" if we remove ipx/sx.

It's very frustrating! Can anyone help?

Steph,

Your problem is very well known here. Resolution depends upon whether the
server (your computer, in this case) is running XP Home or Pro.

Chuck, thanks.
My computer is running XP Pro.
Unfortunately I do not get any numerical error messages, just "Could not
connect to the printer. Access is denied" when I try to install the network
printer, and \\Logon failure. The user has not been granted the specified
logon type at this computer when I try to browse shared folders.
I couldn't really see anything pointing me in the right direction at the URL
you gave.

Steph,

Did you follow the links?

The message
Logon failure: the user has net been granted the requested logon type at
this computer.
is easy to resolve under XP Pro, but may require extra effort under XP Home.

With XP Pro, there are a pair of Local Security Policy settings, under User
Rights Assignment, "Deny access to this computer from the network", and "Access
this computer from the network". If your server uses Guest authentication,
"Guest" must NOT be in the first list, and "Everyone" must be in the second. If
it uses non-Guest authentication, your properly setup, and activated, non-Guest
account must NOT be in the first list.
