Frustrating Vista Performance

Hi everyone,
I am running Vista home premium on a Intel core 2 duo, 2 gig ram, Nvidia
7600GT, Sound blaster Audigy 2 system and I am getting some strange behaviour
when running Vista. My computer slows down about every 60 seconds or so for
about 2 seconds. Its very strange because it happens when i do anything, if
I play music on media player the sound would be choppy every 60 seconds or so
and when I play games they will slow down and the sound will be choppy every
60 secs. At first I thought it was the sound card so I tried 2 different
ones but with no joy. Does anybody have any ideas about this because my
games run a lot smoother on Vista apart from the slow down every 60 secs and
I dont want to have to go back to XP.

Update ALL your drivers, Video, harddisk, and ALL...... check for BIOS
also. I has similar issues on my Toshba laptop until I did this. Check with
System Maker/Motherboard Maker, Video card maker and so on.

What antivirus is on system? That could also be part of this issue.

Check Task Manager and Defender to see running and startup programs
and running processes.
