Frustrating - Chinese emails in Outlook 2007

Since upgrading to Outlook 2007, many of my emails in Chinese are replaced
with ???. The most frustrating part of the problem is that only part of the
email is replaced with ??? or (c)] etc. Other parts of the same email are
normal with proper Chinese characters.

I don't know where to point the finger at. Doesn't look like an encoding
issue. YOu might be able to help. Thanks.

My environment:

- Vista 32 bit
- Office 2007 Prof
- PST with unicode support checked
- Unicode mode used in outgoing mail
- I can send email in Chinese and verified correct in my sent folder with
proper Chinese characters
- Inbound mail is an issue

Thanks

I don't understand your statement "Unicode mode used in outgoing mail";
are you running Outlook in Unicode Mode?

The corrupted incoming messages; what encoding do they have specified?

Unicode for outgoing: Under Toos\Option\mail format\international
option\encoding option for outgoing mail.

I have checked the PST supports unicode. Is this good enough?
Where do I check the mode for incoming mode?

Thanks for your help.

There are a couple of interesting observations regarding this issue:

1. It happened after I upgrade to Office 2007
2. I received Chinese emails from many people all over the world
3. I have no problem reading them in Office 2003
4. Now I have problem reading their e-mails

I don't think all of them have changed the ways they send their emails. My
Outlook is connected to a POP3 account.

I do not have Outlook 2007 (still on 2003), so I cannot test anything
myself. I cannot imagine that this is a bug in OL2007, but perhaps a
setup problem. Did you check the Unicode Mode articles I linked below?

I did check the artilces. They relate most to OL2007 accessing Exchange. I am
on a POP3 setup.

Here is a clear indication there is something wrong with OL2007 with Chinese
e-mails.

OL2007 will replace all Chinese characters with ? or (c) some garbled
characters in a Chinese e-mail if the e-mail is received directly from my
POP3 account. OL2007 shows the correct encoding of the incoming message, Big5
in this case. But you only see ??? If I were to forward myself the same
e-mail, I see garbled characters at first in OL2007. But if I change the
encoding to Big 5. Voila - perfect Chinese e-mail!

Tell me why is OL2007 behaving this way?

M

When I say I forward myself the same e-mail, I don't mean doing it within
OL2007. I meant forwarding it using web access to my POP3 account while
OL2007 is not active.
