Yes indeed. Just had to buy a new licence on line for my WinXp Pro.
Never got a French speaking person either to explain my case on the
phone ( I was taken by a Microsoft Authorised Agent business selling me
a copy of it few years ago without giving me a CD. Of course this
business went bankrupt few months later and disapeared. And I am stuck
with the problem ) The lady whom I talked to wouldn't listen to anything
I said. Just kept repeating: " You have to buy a new copy..bla,bla,bla..
" Well then what good does it make to let business men use their "
Microsoft Authorised Agent " logo if absolutely NO follow up is made to
ensure this is true and trustable ? Worst : can anyone use it freely
without any problem ? So I paid once for my Win Xp pro to this business
gone in smoke, and had to pay again to get another licence yesterday
!!! Because I now get this pop-up window telling me I have a multiple
user licence that seems to be illegal ! I feel frustrated and rubbed by
Microsoft And I must not be the only one, I'm sure of that !
There must be something to do against this ripp-off ? Isn't it ?
I undestand quite well now ( a little bit too late of course ) why many
people I know are rapidly changing to Linux OS !
Shame on Microsoft !

P.S.: my researches resulted in finding the man who bought back this
business, changed it's name and location. He tells me the previous owner
went away with all of his client files ! And legally there is nothing to
do with this jerk who sold me my pc ! So I was taken both ways (
hum,hum ) : by this jerk, and by Microsoft !
I feel so frustrated.

Well, you should know what you bought... in both cases!

And your present WinXP Pro works, important updates are installed - so
what? S... happens;-)

Frankly, this cannot be part of a WinXP newsgroup: your problem amounts to a
matter of your local legal system. I am sorry you had to pay again, but how
do we know that the original "licence" to use the WinXP O/S was itself
legitimate? This is not to say that you yourself knowingly did something
wrong, but that you allowed the vendor to sell you something that he may not
have been entitled to sell you. It only serves to emphasise that if one is
sold what appears to be a full retail WinXP O/S, one should make sure to have
the CD handed to you at the time of sale. The rule here surely is "caveat
emptor": let the buyer beware. Microsoft cannot be responsible for the fact
that you were defrauded by some third party.

You make much of the fact that the vendor was a MS authorised agent. So
what? If you bought a stolen Ford auto from an authorised Ford agent, and it
was subsequently recovered from you by the legitimate owner, would the Ford
Motor Company be liable to reimburse you? I think not.

I don't follow your logic: how did Microsoft 'take' you? A third
party defrauded both you and Microsoft by selling you a counterfeit
product.

I'm not sure why you feel robbed by Microsoft when it was this 3rd party
that defrauded both Microsoft and you.

You are right ! But I am was so furious to having been fooled this way !
And most of all.. to have to pay twice for my Win Xp ! But indeed.. I
got defrauded.. and I am now very angry about it.
Sorry to all for my irrelevant tears.

Understand your need to blow steam; its a nasty shock that many
people are experiencing since the WGA campaign has kicked in.

I've recently seen a steady stream of new customers wanting to get
themselves legit, their original fraudster suppliers having still
managed to go out of business despite their unfair competitive
advantage.

Hi Gaetan,

I am quoting a post from the Microsoft Windows Update NG which you
will find very interesting, follow the links for more information.

QUOTE

Brian Livingston in:
http://windowssecrets.com/comp/060629
points out that the real reason for WGA is to support WPA, the
fundamental
purpose of which is to kill the idea of copyright 'fair-use' copies,
thus it
is actually aimed at the average home user, not, as MS so often tries
to
state, at 'pirates'. He points out that pirates easily circumvent
WPA, and
that the bag is then left in the hands of the user.

All the talk about 'caveat emptor' is really just the standard ploy of
blaming the victim. The fact that most of those pointing the finger
of
blame would also consider it only 'smart' to save money at other's
expense
in a situation in which they could not be held accountable has at
least a
touch of hypocrisy about it.

Also MSFT themselves have posted official removal instructions for WGA
Notify Tray..................hmmm!

Hope you feel less frustrated and more empowered after reading through
the above.

I'm not defending WGA. WGA is going to cost MS far more in lost good will
from legitimate customers than it will recover in revenues. Read my blog to
see what I think of it. From now on, anyone who asks me what computer they
should buy is being pushed towards an Apple Mac unless they have
requirements that the Apples cannot handle.

But Microsoft *are* *legally obliged* to defend their investment and it
isn't their fault that some resellers out there are defrauding end users.

I'm always surprised at "professionals" who STILL have to be asked:
"Have you checked (event viewer / syslog)".

As ususal you have no clue what your talking about.

Microsoft may have been paid once while the 3rd party used the same copy on
who knows how many computers before they went out of business.

Please get a clue.

Looks like you're the guy who's speculating. So until you know the facts of
the case, don't jump to MickeyMouse's defense unless you're just a Windoze
Fanboy.

"MickeyMouse" instead of Microsoft
"Windoze" instead of Windows.

So what are you? A "Linux Fanboy", a troll, or illiterate?

I notice you neglected to reply to my earlier response to you on this
thread. Rational debate a little beyond you huh?

The facts are in; you're an idiot. Follow the thread, nimrod. The guy
got ripped off with a bogus install of Windows. Too hard for you to
grasp? Now do us all a favor and go play Tuxracer.

You need to find a scenario that is at least close to what is being
discussed here. The mugger doesn't have any relationship with the bank, nor
is it under any licensing agreement with the bank. MickeyMouse on the other
hand licenses computer retailers to bundle its toy operating system on
computers they sell. Computer retailers have a legal contract with
MickeyMouse to do so. MickeyMouse should police their own damn contracts
with their resellers and not leave the consumers as the victims and pay for
any contractual arrangements broken between MickeyMouse's resellers and
MickeyMouse.

There, I replied. Happy now? But I bet you still don't get it.
