FrontPage Themes

I have completed my website with a new theme to replace my old theme which
works perfectly in 'preview in browser' within Frontpage 2003. However, when
I uploaded this to the server no theme was displayed, only text in very large
fonts instead of buttons, my theme is called 'Blank'. My hosting company say
it's not a server problem. Having seen the site work in IE6 and Firefox via
the 'preview in browser' option I cannot understand why it does not work when
I've successfully without errors uploaded on the server. Can anybody offer a
solution?

Hi, Paul:
When you uploaded the website, did you use the FrontPage publish function?
If not, try that. Also, I believe that the server needs to have FrontPage
extensions loaded in order for your theme to work properly.

Good luck,
Kim.

Hi Kim,
Thanks for quick reply.
Yes I did use Frontpage publish function and my server does have FrontPage
extensions installed as the site has been up and running for a few years.
All I have done is to change my theme to a new one and then used the publish
function to overwite the old files.

You can't use the Publish via http:// method if the web server does not have
the FP extensions installed and working. You'd have to use ftp and upload
the right folders. For the life of me, at the moment I cant remember which
hidden folders you have to upload....someone will jump in here and post
those folder names.

Hi, Paul:
Here's what I would try next then... click on the Remote Website tab at the
bottom so that the files are showing on both servers. Delete all the files
listed on your web server (that doesn't have the right theme) then publish
again... this way, it won't have to overwrite anything. It will be a fresh
copy of the site going up to the Web.

Hope this helps,
Kim.

Hi Kim,

tried that, website getting worse, only directories now showing on site
including old theme directory which I cannot delete. Am thinking of asking
hosts to delete site completely and then to reinstall Frontpage 2003
extensions and then I'll try and publish again. Do you think this would work?

Thanks

Paul

Yeah, unfortunately that would be my next thought too... when all else fails,
start over! I don't understand why it won't let you delete the old theme
directory, but that's probably what is causing your problem. If you can get
into the files through FTP and delete that pesky folder, maybe that would do
the trick...?
