Frontpage Search alternative

Does anyone know of an alternative to using the FP search engine. I am
willing to purchase an engine as long as it can provide more/better options
than FP does. I am not sure where to look for this. I would need a search
engine that can be implemented on all our intranets (running on IIS 5.0).

I have googled this but only found one vendor that offers an intranet search
engine and is too costly. Does anyone have any suggestions? I will greatly
appreciate it.

I recommend dtSearch [1] as a 'software' solution you should evaluate.
You'll see them advertised in most of the trade journals as they have
a proven solution that has been around for quite some time.

You should also evaluate a search 'appliance' such as those from
Thunderstone [2] and Google [3]. Ironically...

SharePoint Portal Server can search multiple internal and external Web
servers, plus fileshares and some third-party document libraries. If you're
considering any sort of movement toward a portal environment, this is worth a
look.

Since you are on IIS, you can use Index Server and do custom ASP coding. Visit the Index Server
newsgroup for help with this.

http://frontlook.com have a se that works with asp or php and across subwebs
no stats at present but that will be coming it's been said.
