Frontpage PUBLISH window doesn't populate

I am using XP home, FP 2002, creating a local web and (trying) to publish to
my site. I have had this problem once before a couple of years ago

Problem: I can edit my site locally but when I go to publish the two sides
of the PUBLISH window never populate. It will sit there with the hourglass
and eventually time out with an "unable to make a connection" error. The
program is not hung as I can hit the cancel button at any time. This happens
with any of 3 webs (one very simple) I am able to access the site via the
web and also using CuteFTP which logs in quickly. I can update files that
way if I so choose. This behavior persists if I try to publish the web to
another provider

I have repaired then totally reinstalled office - after the reinstall it
populated ONCE but never published

I have removed ALL the FrontPage temp files, searched of hidden *.web files
and deleted cmdui.prf

There was an entry in the wecerr.txt files "Server error: The URL
"C:\DOCUME~1\Rick\LOCALS~1\Temp\FrontPageTempDir\mstheme\gfhp\gfhp1111.css"
is not contained within a FrontPage web.
" I deleted all CSS files and reinstalled the theme

I have recalculated hyperlinks

I have come to the end of my rope :)

If anyone can provide me with a solution, I will be grateful

Thanks in advance
Rick

using FTP breaks the frontpage extensions which are used to connect to publish
within frontpage.(using the http method, which I assume you're having the
problems with.),

Interesting as the examples in the publish window suggest
FTP://microsoft.com and that is how I set up to publish through FP. I don't
use an FTP program to upload my site although I use it to check that it CAN
be logged into. I often use command line FTP for the same purpose

Using FTP to verify if you can login has no bearing on the ability to connect via FP's http mode,
since FTP talks to the FTP server and http talks to web server. The only thing use FTP indicates is
that the site is access via FTP.
