Frontpage Express

Don Tupling

I have installed frontpage express on my XP system. I know it's old but it
works and I'm used to it. How can I register this program as an html editor
in IE6 so it shows under the "programs" tab and as a choice on the taskbar?
Thanks for any help.

You will need to use regedit and edit two registry values.

Go here:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Default HTML Editor
And change the value for Description to FrontPage Express

Then here:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Default HTML Editor\shell\edit\command
and change the Value for Default to the path to the executable that opens FrontPage express. I
assume it would be
C:\Program Files\somefoldername\something.exe

Then close and reopen Internet Explorer.

OK. I tried your suggestion and now it shows "Microsoft FrontPage Editor" as
a choice even though the name I enetered was "Frontpage Express" in the
description. When I select this Microsoft Word opens even though I changed
the command entry to "C:\Program Files\Frontpage Express\fpxpress.exe".

Any other suggestions?

Double click My Computer, Click Tools > Folder Options and then the File types tab.
Scroll down to htm and click once to highlight. Click the Advanced button. In the next applet
click once on Edit to highlight it and then click the Edit button. Then under "Application used to
perform action, click Browse and browse to
C:\Program Files\Frontpage Express\ and select fpxpress.exe and then click Open. Then Click OK and
OK and OK

Do the same for the extension html and then reboot the computer.
