Frontpage Client? Wha's That?

B

Bob Dickow

I have FrontPage 2003 and IIS with FrontPage extensions running. I have been
clicking on the IIS menu items for using 'FrontPage' on the server-extension
webs that I have on my server. However, the system refuses my request,
saying in the dialog alert box that it will only work with "FrontPage
Client" installed. Well, I can't seem to find FrontPage Client, whatever
that is. Is it downloadable? What is its role?

Anybody fill me in?

I have never been able to run FP from the link under IIS. Best to just open FP the normal way, then
open your site.

Bob,
The client is FrontPage itself as any program that makes a request
from a server is considered a client. I think this is a case where the
ability to launch FP from within the IIS MMC is hard-coded to a particular
version of FP, the version that was available at the time IIS 5.x was
developed. In the past this worked for me with FP 2000, but has not worked
with any subsequent version.

Hope this helps,
