Frontpage 2000 installation

An electrical storm ended my computer's life. Even with APC battery backup. I
have used FP 2000 for years without a problem and still have a site up. I
need to load FP onto another computer SOON to make changes to my site. Oddly
enough all the windows and microsoft elements of the old hard drive will not
function although I did recover all the FP files? Here is what happens when
I try to install FrontPage 2000, I get the following message "Setup failed to
locate a valid qualifying product on your machine". The install stops. I've
tried 2 machines. Any Help? Leo

You need to have a FP98 CD because your FP2000 is a upgrade version.

FYI, many MS products (and probably others) come as "upgrade" and "full"
versions - the main difference being the cheaper price for the upgrade, for
those already using a previous version of that product. In your case, you
will need your FP98 disk to "qualify" for the upgrade to FP2000.

The message means exactly what is says - it failed to find a qualifying
product (a previous version of FP) on your hard drive - but it should prompt
for the previous version's installation CD. All you need is a FP98 CD handy
and insert it when asked for - the system scans the disk, then proceeds with
the install as usual.

I am guessing that when you first installed FP2000 on your original PC, it
would have FP98/97 on the hard drive already installed (so didn't prompt
you with the message you're now getting).

Thanks for the quick replies. Do you think I'd be better served with a newer
full version of FP. Would I be able to use my files from the FP 2000 folder?
In the event I can't find the FP 98 disc, it seems I may as well move
forward?? Your thoughts.

The latest (and last) version of FrontPage (FP2003) may be difficult to
find since it is no longer manufactured.
A 60 day trial for Expression Web, the replacement for FrontPage, is
available from

http://www.microsoft.com/expression/products/download.aspx?key=web

Do not forget the product key obtainable from a link on that page.
