Front Page Root Directory Password Issue

Front Page 2003... created a site some years ago that's long gone. Now want
to create a new site on my laptop, then upload or publish it to my new ISP.

No matter what I try to do... open existing, create new, import... Front
Page wants an ID and password to the "root web" which of course is long gone
and forgotten.

It's trying to do this in the location walter/my web... I'm thinking this
could be the problem because not only is the old site gone, so is the old
computer -- this is a new laptop.

Any suggestions as to how I can start fresh?

I'm confused...if the old website is gone, the old computer is gone, what
exactly are you trying to open? If it's the OLD website on a remote server,
just contact your host and have them apply a new un/pw. But if you are
creating a new site on a new ISP why would you need the old un/pw.

Both/all of the above... I installed Front Page on my new laptop and want to
use it to create a new website. When I click "new" it wants a un/pw. I "need"
a un/pw because I can't open, create new, import, without one for some
reason. I would think it would allow me to create the new site then upload it
-- that's how I used to do it. But I can't get past the un/pw screen no
matter what I do.

When you set up your laptop, did you set up a password for your
Windows account? Not having a password here may be causing the
problem. It definitely will be a problem if setting up a new Server
based website using IIS on Windows XP Pro.

You may be on to something... because i don't think I set up a password at
the "root" level. (I do have two identities that require un/pw, but the
computer boots up to a screen asking for "ctrl/alt/del" so I can select which
identity to log on.) I am using Windows XP Pro!
