Front Page 98 ---2003

Ive been using Front Page 98 for 7 years now, plus Im still on Windows 98.

I know I'll have to upgrade to XP, but will the Front Page 2003 Upgrade
work, or will I have to pay for the full version?

Also, my webhost company has Front Page extensions, and I'd like to be sure
that when I create a website offering access database access (using FP 2003)
that things will run smoothly--can anyone confirm this?

Yes, FP98 can be used as a Upgrade and it doesn't have to be installed on Windows XP first. Suggest
you get the Windows XP Pro upgrade version, so that you can continue to work with server-based webs,
unless you plan to use the FP2003 Dynamic Web Templates.

After you upgrade to XP the 2003 upgrade will work.
However, the issue is going to be removing PWS ( personal web server ) from XP as it does
not support it.

What I would do: ( providing you still have the FP 98 "full install" CD )

Uninstall FP 98.
Upgrade to XP
Start the FP install with the upgrade CD and when it asks for the qualifying product,
insert the FP 98 CD and point the machine to it. The install will then ask for the FP
2003 CD and continue the install.

As for extensions, the latest version is 2002 and they are fully compatible with FP 2003.

Thanks--but the "system requirements" listed on the MS FrontPage site says a
minimum of Windows 2000 or XP is required--is that just to get me to buy it?

Also, when I choose a webhost provider, do I need to make sure they're
running Windows SharePoint Services or are the FP Extensions enough, in order
to be able to use the database features of FP 2003?

That is the minimum requirements. If you want to work with server based webs, you need Windows 2000
Pro or Windows XP Pro. You do not need to be concerned about Sharepoint unless you are hosted on a
Windows 2003 Server and the host offer Sharepoint as well as the FP extensions. However the FP2003
dialogs will reference Sharepoint even when you are just using the FP extensions.
