From NTDomain to new Win2K Domain

Hi You All !

My configuration is currently as follows:

One server SRVNT running Windows NT 4.0 SP6a as a PDC (Primary Domain
Controller) of the MYNTDOMAIN, with 30 user accounts and the like set up.

Another brand new server SRVWIN2K, with Windows 2000 Server SP4 installed. I
want this server to become the DC of a new domain named MYNEWDOMAIN.

For some reasons, I don't want to keep the old NT domain named MYNTDOMAIN.

However, the thing is that in the process of setting up the new domain
MYNEWDOMAIN (the dcpromo stuff, etc.), I want to avoid, if possible, two
tasks:

1. To re-create all the user accounts already set up on the old server
SRVNT;
2. To make the client computers (XP, Win2K Pro, Win NT Workstation machines)
quit the old MYNTDOMAIN domain and then join the new domain MYNEWDOMAIN
domain;

Is there a smart way to achieve that, maybe with the Win2K Ressource Kit
Tools?

Help greatly appreciated.

Nicolas

You can do a Migration using ADMT which is a supported tool by
Microsoft.

This tool basically lets you migrate all of your user accounts
with their settings like Passwords, Profile Settings etc intact

It also does this great job in unjoining all of your client
machines from the old domain and joining the new domain. This is
automatically done using a DSAgent which is installs on all
clients which are contacted and selected for migration

ADMT is available for Download from the Microsofts website.
it has a lot of documentation which you would want to go through
before you use the tool.

Good luck

Many thanks for the tip, Gautam.
I've already printed the migration cookbook which goes along with ADMT.

Nicolas
