from load personel settings to desktop 2min

XP Home. From loading personel settings, then my blue screen(my desktop
no screen saver) to the icons being visable is 2.20 secs. The loading
of personel settings take about 20 secs. What I would like to know is
what happens after the personel settings are loaded, and why it takes
so long to display the icons. I can see a flicker indicating disk
activity, the mouse is movable on the screen, the desktop appears, and
the programs are loaded on the task bar. Any ideas.

Thanks Ron for the info. I found that I have 6 entries of SVCHOST.EXE
in the log. Any idea why I have so many entries or is this normal.? One
ove them takes 115 secs to load.

Multiple instances of SVCHOST is normal with Windows XP. Each
instance loads a different set of services.

Taking 115 seconds to load does seem a bit excessive. Is there any
other data associated with that SVCHOST entry in the log that might
help to track it further, such as a Process Identifier (PID) number?
