From Field Blank in Inbox list

Tim Colling

Hi -

After installing SP3 for my Outlook 2002, the next time I started Outlook,
the From field for all 120 or so messages in my Inbox show with the "From"
field blank in the list view (the right-hand pane of the inbox window).
After that, all new messages came in with the From field NON-blank, but the
old ones persist in showing the From field as blank. When I open the
messages individually, or view them in the Preview pane, then the from field
info is visible.

Help! How can I get the From field to be non blank for those messages? I
ran scanpst.exe and it completed successfully and reported that it found no
problems with the file.

Thanks,
Tim

Hi -

Thanks for taking the time and effort to answer my meessage. I appreciate
your trying to help.

I tried changing the view but that did not solve the problem.

Thanks,
Tim

Does it fix it if you switch views? View, Current view...

What type of account do you use? If you reply, is the To field properly
filled in? do you mind saving one of the messages with the missing From
field as a msg file, zipping it up and sending it to me?

Hi -

Thank you for taking the time and effort to respond to my request. I
appreciate your help.

When I try to "reply" to these problem messages, the To field is indeed
filled in just fine.

I did note one oddity: when I view these messages in the "list" in the top
right hand pane in Outlook, their "Sent" dates appear, but when I open them,
the "Sent" date field shows as "none" (and the "From" data mysteriously
reappears.)

I am attaching one of those pesky messages, as you requested. Please let me
know what you discover or what you suggest. [Note - message was only
attached to the reply that I sent to the individual named below].

I hate to be an alarmist, but this happened shortly after I installed SP3
for Office (and Outlook) 2002. I can't help but wonder whether or not that
is just a coincidence.

Thanks,

Tim

I've been very annoyed to run into this very same problem.

I picked a bad time to clean-up my Inbox.... every blank "from"
message needs to be opened to find out who it's from.

And I'm praying that this does NOT mean that the .pst file is
corrupted--it's fairly recently rebuilt, and the Inbox repair utility
shows no problems.

I should qualify my earlier response--this happens with SOME, indeed a
MINORITY, not ALL, existing and new e-mails in my Inbox.

And yes, I've just recently installed SP3.

Hi Diane -

Any news on this, after looking at the file that I sent you?

Thanks,
Tim
