without use of boot disk. Any ideas how this can be fixed. On windows XP
(home)

Hi Pete,

Not sure how you installed Windows XP Home Edition on the partition, but
I would advise you to back up the information you wish to save off of the
Hard Drive. Depending on how large the Hard Drive inside you Laptop is, I
would partition the Hard Drive into two partitions. Drive C: where you would
install Windows XP Home Edition and Drive D: would be used for your Data
files, like My Documents folder, otherwise, move the files you want saved
off the Laptop Computer.

Next, I would use the Windows XP Home Edition CD, booting from it and I
would Format and Reinstall Windows XP Home Edition. By formatting and
reinstalling will fix your problem. Make sure thou, that you can boot from
the CD-Rom Drive first.
