I am working on a long study and wanted to find out how many times I have
used a specific word. Is there an easy way to count the total number of times
that one word occurs in the text?

Thanks!

Use Edit>Replace to replace the word with itself. Word will provide a
count of the replacements performed.

Awesome! thank you!

Another option but much the same - Find for whatever with a check in the box
for Highlight all Items Found In: - the Find Next Button becomes the Find
All button. The count of found occurrences will display right above the
button. The advantage is that you can use most [if not all] of the other
features in the Find dialog.

Replace the word with ^& rather than itself so you will not acquire
capitalisation anomalies.
