Freezing programmes, unable to use Ctrl+Alt+delete

Recently installed/downloaded program called ONSPEED to
speed up internet access, and now get my computer
freezing on me, mostly when online, looking up website
links, I get the busy symbal, use Ctrl+Alt+Delete, pop-up
window appears for ending program, it says this program
is not responding etc... I click on 'end now' but
nothing happens, the pop-up window disappears, but the
online window stays put with the busy symbal, still
showing. How ever many times I try, its the same, even
when I click on the close cross, pop-up window 'end
progam' appears each time, but nothing happens, no
response. The window will NOT close! If I click on
another program it then completely freezes on me. At the
moment I have disabled ONSPEED to make sure it does not
happen here and see if it is this program? Can anyone out
there help me?

You've got a lovely case of cause-and-effect there and you've actually
answered your own question. Uninstall the offending program. You may
need to do this in Safe Mode. Then be smart and perform the usual
housecleaning chores because you don't know what garbage this program
has put on your system - many of these so-called "optimize your
fill-in-the-blank" programs are really just vehicles for spyware. Usual
housekeeping:

1) Scan with current antivirus ("current" means a version not earlier
than 2002 but using updated virus definitions); 2) remove spyware with
Spybot Search & Destroy (www.safer-networking.org) and Ad-aware
(www.lavasoftusa.com). These programs are free, so use them both since
they complement each other. You may also want to run the latest
CWShredder from http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/index.html. Always
read the instructions before running a spyware removal tool. Be sure to
update these programs before running, and it is a good idea to do
virus/spyware scans in Safe Mode; 3) delete temporary and Temporary
Internet Files; 4) stop unnecessary services/programs from starting
with Windows - see www.blackviper.com for services info and
www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_index.htm for programs info - 5) look in
Event Viewer for clues; 6) make sure you've visited Windows Update and
applied all security patches; 7) run a firewall.
