freeze when attaching files

Outlook version 10.0.6626 will no longer allow me to attach any type of file.
Clicking on attachment brings up list but when I try to click on a file and
retrieve from within it hourglass shows and never stops. Alt+control+ delete
brings up box and I have to close process HPOSTS08.exe to clear. Also when
shutting computer down I get message to close all open office programs and I
have to Alt+Control+Delete to go to processes and close OUTLOOK.EXE before it
will shut down.

That's interesting, because HPOSTS08.exe belongs to HP OfficeJet's
Diagnostics and Monitoring tool.

Any Outlook addons installed? Does the same thing happen if you temporarily
disable antivirus and try?
Is this for any attachment?

Applies to any file attachment. Shutting off virus protection makes no
difference. This time when trying to attach a file and it would not let me,
I again did ALT+Control+Delete, went to processes and closed highlighted
process VERCLSID.exe. This took me back to e-mail I was composing. Also
when I started up this AM I rec'd. the message: The data file "Archive
Folders" was not closed properly file will be checked for errors. After a
few seconds Outlook started but I had the same issues. I truly appreciate
your thoughts!

Solved this issue. I went back to restore point before I downlaoded and
installed latest Microsoft critical updates of April 12th. I wish I knew
which update caused the problem because I like to keep up to date on latest
critical updates. Thanks for your help!
