I have a Compaq 7588 with PIII 550 Mhz, 384 Megs ram. The
computer freezes after running for a few minutes. Could be
anywhere from a couple to 10 or 15 or longer. I run task
manager and watch performance while this happens and it
runs for 50 seconds and freezes, starts up again after 1
minute on its own. Even when I and am not running any
other programs and hands off the mouse and keyboard. These
times are exact and constant. It seems like a program is
checking ports or something but I'm not sure. I scanned
for viruses and even wiped out and started over with the
Compaq restore disk and XP Pro loaded over it. It still
happens. Any ideas? The heatsink and fan seem ok. The
heatsink is comfortable to the touch but I don't have any
temp sensing equipment.

Your PC may not meet the RECOMMENDED requirements, but it
does meet the minimum requirements. Try upgrading your
RAM and your processor. To get a processor, call up your
PC manufacturer and you can get a processor kit from
them. For RAM chips, go to the local computer store.

Kenneth Clive.

I think it's ok because it has run XP Pro for at least 6
months now with no problems. This just started. I have
upgraded memory from 128 to 384. Do you mean getting a
different brand? I have Crucial now. The processor is a
socket 370 which I know runs a little warmer than a slot
1. Basically does it sound like hardware or software
related?
