Freewarehome.com is going downhill.

Just went to their site and saw an advertisement for smileycentral.com
AKA "FunWebProducts", a company that some say installs "scumware" on a
user's computer. I contacted Freewarehome.com about this and how badly
it reflects on them, and they answered that they don't have time to
filter out the ads that go through their site.

Seems to me that the site was a lot better when Bambam ran it.

I don't reply to trolls like Andy Mabbett, Doc (who uses sock puppets)
or Roger Johansson, for instance. No adware, cdware, commercial
software, crippleware, demoware, nagware, PROmotionware, shareware,
spyware, time-limited software, trialware, viruses or warez for me, please.

Don't forget the wretched pop-up window, either.

Animated advertising really gets my goat (the smileys ad is actually
suprisingly tame compared to some I've seen). It's like having some kind
of autistic kid, who, having no sense of social skills, stands within
your personal space and shouts out garbage. No, wait. It's like that
episode of the Simpsons where they go to Japan and watch a programme
called Seizure Robots. One glance at the telly and they're rolling about
on the floor with dilated pupils.

Really, we should all be grateful for Internet Explorer, and the fact
that Firefox doesn't come with AdBlock as standard. That way, the
advertisers think they're getting away with it, whilst a few in the know
can bypass all the crud. So, don't know about you , but I'm off to write
Bill Gates a thank-you note right now.

Don't know what you guys are talking about :) Just visited the site and
did not see any adds at all!

Although I am running firefox with flashblock, addblock and filterset.g
:) I really don't know how people can browse with out them!

http://www.freewarefiles.com/ and http://www.snapfiles.com are way better
than freewarehome.com and you don't get the smile ads

Also well worth considering is the Web Developer extension, even if
you're not a web developer. There's a Disable section, so you can enable
and disable java, images, animations, popup blockers, and so on, from a
simple menu. And whilst we're talking about Firefox, an extension which
I find invaluable is FlashGot, which combines with a download manager
(e.g. Free Download Manager), so that you can download files nicely by
right-clicking on a link.

I've also installed Privoxy a few weeks ago. Privoxy is a "web proxy" -
so I connect Firefox to the proxy, and the proxy filters out content.
It's mainly aimed at filtering out junk. It captures some junk that
would have gotten through. It can be quite aggressive, though. It often
blocks clicks on ads on Google.

I mean "when Garrett ran it."

I posted today about Free Download Manager, it kept trying to install an IE Helper
file for me, WinPatrol says thats a nono. I dumped it.

Doc, I will make an exception to my rule not to reply to trolls just to
ask you:

When are you going to grow up? You're making yourself look like a fool.

I use MSIE and I get no pop ups or animated ads from the site,
probably due to my browser settings.

Right, but my point was that if they allow ads for scumware, it reflects
poorly on their discretion regarding the programs that they offer. I
hope they still refuse to allow nagware, trialware, etc. in their listings.
