Hello,

I'm looking for a good freeware video capture program.

Something that will later let me convert it to a DVD and add menus
etc.

This is to backup all of my home videos.

Any help would be appreciated.

I would suggest Virtualdub to capture the video to avi.
The Film Machine can load the avi and turn it into a DVD.

I'm looking for a good freeware video capture program.

I know that this is the freeware newsgroup - but I think that this is
one of those occasions when one really ought to consider a commercial
application (another one being personal finance managers).

I very recently coughed up 32 GBP for VideoStudio 9 from Amazon UK. So
far, it's shown itself to be quite a good product, and is very capable
for a "mere" 32 quid. I think you should seriously consider it.

Having said that ... back to the free stuff.

I think some good stuff to have in your video armoury is:

Dorgem: Dorgem is a webcam capture application for Windows 9x and up:

Bulent's screen recorder - Besides recording webcam sessions, the
recorder can also be used to record computer instruction videos, for
example you can record the installation and usage of a program as a
movie, or even web based security cams:

SUPER - format converter:

WinDV is a small and easy to use Windows application for capturing
videos from DV device (camcorder) into AVI-files and for recording
AVI-files into DV device via FireWire (IEEE 1394) interface. Capturing
is very reliable thanks to use of large buffer queue.
