That's nice to know. I have not found that information at the
developers site. PK references IE in his description. Do you have a
reference? I'd like to be able to share it with others. I have
suggested SpyBot as a tool for many folks.

Thanks.

This is the overview url. Spybot - Search & Destroy can detect and
remove spyware of different kinds from your computer.
Spyware may be installed by downloading and installing programs. It
doesn't matter what means you use to download the programs, i.e. http
(browsers), ftp, irc, IM, etc.

You may find it useful to google "spyware definition". It's a term that
is fairly generic and takes a broad stroke. Again, the point is that
spyware can infest your machine by various means and not just by using
IE. Spybot attempts to find various spyware and spyware components that
reside on your machine regardless of how they got there.

It would seem that what you saw was an advertizement and not a pop-up.

Mel:

I had both spybot and spyware blaster installed months, if
not years prior to this fiasco. I run spybot daily at
least once a day. Spyware blaster is installed ..as is MS
anti spy ....

I will see what happens:

Somebody on this site said "block" a certain site, but I
don't know how.... I use xp (pro)

net...
Use the HOSTS file (google it).

Site popped up a "warning" box about "critical errors" on your
machine and the whole damn box is a hot link which I accidentally
clicked and then instantly closed. I would avoid the place!!

This is what I was "bitching about" two minutes ago...
I wonder if Barney was able to rid his machine of this pest....
Unfortunatly with Firefox I didn't experience the same trama nor did
I fall for the old scam used to follow the link. I have always used
WinPatrol and Avast and guess they haven't spotted what appears a
problem to some. If a problem does arise, I'll be sure to advise
all.

As soon as this site appeared, my SpywareDoctor informed me that the
site was trying to impose spyware on my computer.

Perhaps my software did it silently because to this point the computer
has no ill effects according to Spybot, Bazooka, Adaware, XP firewall,
Windows guardian nor Avast.
