Hiya,

Simply looking for a program to convert some midis I have into Waves or
MP3s. Tried Audacity but it wont recognize them for some reason and tried
Sound Recorder and it won't either. They play in Winamp, so I know the files
are good. Thought looking for a freeware DVD player was hard to find lol.

TIA!

midi files are not an audio file...

To convert a midi to a wav there are a couple of ways of doing it

Timidity++ is the best IMO, for a long time the only!

It was a bit hard to get going, but some folks have worked on helping,
notably Tim Brechbill, but he's disappeared.

You need sound patches, the bigger(higher quality), the better, well
worth getting merlin_gm35.sf2 for a decent sounding CD, but they can be a
lot smaller, the soundfont you use is up to you.

I've found this (God, how I miss Brechbill)

http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Sound

scroll down to Midi Conversion.

I've not used this, but it appears to be a completer starter kit

Timidity converts faster than real time , or can be used as a classy midi
player, and will repay getting to know

Recently updated
http://timidity.sourceforge.net/ (only sources)

A Windows version:
http://www7.tok2.com/home/misc/timidity/timidity_pp_w32_get.html

It is hard to find the eawpatches, after they have been removed from
stardate, but a mirror is still working
http://ftp.ccc.uba.ar/download/pub/NetBSD/packages/1.6/sparc/All/eawpat
ches-11.tgz
(one line) Beware, it is over 29 Meg big.

Another pattern file is
http://ftp.debian.org/debian/pool/main/f/freepats/freepats_
20040611.orig.tar.gz
(one line) which isn't really much smaller.

And you'll have to uncompress them. Use AlZip from www.altools.net; it
can handle these archives.
