Hi,

I have an USB HDD that behaves stable when connected to older PCs with
USB 1.1 ports and highly erratic when connected to newer machines. All
computers I tested have Win XP Pro SP2 installed.

Is there any program to slow down an USB 2.0 port to USB 1.1 speed?

TIA
Gerhard

You can purchase a classic USB hub (1.1 Compliant), and let it serve as
a bridge, that will slow down the speed. :-)

Sounds like you use an insufficient USB cable. If the HD was only
USB 1.x it would always work low speed. (Regardless of the speed
of the USB port of the PC.)

Dunno. I'd use an USB 1.1 hub between HD and PC. They are cheap and
ensure low speed connection. (Presumed the cable is not the cause of
your trouble.) Advantage would be that you could take it with your HD
to every PC you like. - Without the need to install a program.

Last time Best Buy had 1.1 (powered, yet) hubs on clearance, they were
about $4.99.
