Hey there-

Last week I downloaded and installed this Registry repair program called
Free Registry Fix (www.freeregistryfix.com).

I just wanted to evaluate the condition of my HP Pavilion Laptop's registry
(XP Home Edition. To my surprise the program told me I had over 300 errors.
Without thinking, I clicked Next and the program started fixing the errors.
It went through and completely screwed up my computer (fixed 50 of the
so-called errors)

I immediately realized that I screwed up, and again without thinking I
uninstalled the program. Now I have no idea what the program did, or how to
go about repairing the damage.

Is there anything that can be done to reverse the changes?

Thank you,

Thank you,

You could try reinstalling the program and see if it created a backup before
it modified the registry. You could also try a System Restore to a time
before you attempted the registry "fix".

I just went through the same issue, so I feel your pain. When you cleaned the
registry, it should've automatically saved a backup of all deleted files. If
you do not know where the backup is stored, run a search free registry fix on
your computer. You can restore all the files, but be aware that you will be
restoring all the problems along with them. So, this is not a good idea if
the problems included any malware. From there you can attempt to fix it again
by being selective of which files to delete.

Hope this helps

What does "completely screwed up" mean? Exactly what happened and what
problems are you experiencing?

You can try Kerry's suggestions, but if neither of those help you're
probably out of luck. I always recommend against the routine use of
registry cleaners. Routine cleaning of the registry isn't needed and is
dangerous. Leave the registry alone and don't use a registry cleaner.
Despite what many people think, and what vendors of registry cleaning
software try to convince you of, having unused registry entries doesn't
really hurt you.

The risk of a serious problem caused by a registry cleaner erroneously
removing an entry you need is far greater than any potential benefit it may
have.
