Free utility like PartitionMagic

I wish to use Slackware (as I have experience with it). But AFAIK,
Slackware' setup program can't resize partition without deleting.

Could you use a distro that doesn't delete when resizing a partition,
then delete the install and put on Slackware? Honestly, I don't know if
this is possible, but maybe some Linux pro on here could verify along
those lines or not.

I also have tried a lot of the freeware versions you mentioned and some
that you missed. None of them even came close to [OT] Partition Magic.

Unfortunately only [OT] Partition Magic is able to perform every task I
can throw at it; with the safety knowing that there will be no data
loss. It is (so far) the only util that works with ALL file/data
structures from FAT, FAT32, NTFS, etc and all Linux partitions.

So, I think I will look to buying a 2nd hand copy of Partition Magic.
Since I will be using it only once in a few months/years, and I don't have
other uses for it (i.e. I don't do tech support/computer repair) I don't
feel like buying the full version.

Although I use [OT] PM and find it suits all my needs, it may be
overkill for your particular needs.

Sure, if you must, get it but try all the freeware solutions first. I
may have said that it does everything for me but in your case, I still
think there MAY be a freeware solution. We just haven't found it yet :o)

I prefer to use freeware when available and I think John Corliss' idea
in a later post in this thread may work for you.

You don't even need to delete. Simply install Slackware over the
existing installation. Slackware uses the standard fdisk that comes
with Linux. As far as I am aware you can resize partitions from within
it but it can be a bit technical. Please make sure you have defragged
all existing partitions _before_ attempting _any_ resizing operations.

Maybe. I will look at this. Any small "system rescue" Linux Live-CD's with
partitioning tools?
