PartitionMagic

How many of you have used PartitionMagic ? All that I need, is to have
Windows XP Professional give me all GBs available. After deleting old
partition and selecting 'create new' there is a small chuck that is
basically left as unused-space. It's only about 7MB, but I want everything.

Is using PartitionMagic the right solution?

To get rid of that 7 *megabytes*? I doubt it. That's basically nothing,
and could just be part of what has to be left over in the partitioning
scheme. 7 MB is 1/1000 of 7 GB, just to give you an idea - it's
inconsequential.

Some space at the end of the disk is reserved by Setup in case you later
want to upgrade the disk to a dynamic disk. Dynamic disk information is
saved at the end of the disk. The amount that is reserved is a minimum of
one cylinder, or 1MB, whichever is greater. One cylinder can be up to 8MB,
depending on drive geometry and translation.

Personally - I think that if you are concerned over such a small amount of
space - you should buy a $10 thumb drive and stop worrying over the small
stuff. What do you expect to do with that extra space? One or two songs?

I have used Partition magic, Acronis is good too. Was your PC an OEM PC, LIKE
AN hp? Sounds like a recovery partition. You have no usable data or OS on
the HD,,RIGHT, then just boot off of your XP cd like you are installing, at
the end of the text mode part xp will find the partitions and ask you what to
do, delete them all. They will all go back into one partition that needs to
be formatted b/c it is raw -or-
go to the web site of the manufacturer of your HD and download there cd ISO
of their free hd tools and write all "Os" to the hd,, - or - go to newegg.com
and just buy a 500gb HD for $99.

And to put it another way, it's about 7/200 of a US penny's worth of
disk space.

I still use Norton PartitionMagic notwithstanding it hasn't been upgraded
for many years since Symantec bought out .... umm was it PowerQuest?

Do you have a number of different sized partitions on your hard disk or
just a C: drive.?

If you have a number of partitions try getting PartionMagic to incorporate
that massive 7MB of disk space into a different partition.

If you only have C: drive then try temporarily creating another partition
to use up that 7MB of disk space, then if that works delete the new
partition and add it to your original C: drive.
