Free space on hardrive wont refresh after deleting large file

Hi
Can anyone help ive been having this problem for a while
now.When i delete a large file mainly 4.5 gb image files
the normal prompt appears sying that this file is too
large for the recycly bin and then gives you your options
i then click yes to permanantly delete the file,and it
does, however my available space on my hardrive doesnt
increase and i am rapidly running out of room i have
tried disk cleanup,and emptying the recycle bin but to no
avail any help would be great

If you are using norton programs you may have activated a
function that will allow you to restore deleted files. In
other words you will save the deleted file in your
trashcan. Right click on the trashcan and tap properties.
choose standard instead of protected. If you still want
this future to maintain you can just emty your trashcan
each time you have deleted a file.
