Hi all,
I have a Windows 2000 SP4 Domain Controller which went
live at the beginning of May 2004. It is running the
follwing apps/services:
- Exchange 2000 SP4
- Backup Exec 9.0
- Norton AV Corporate 8.1
We have two 36Gb drives in a RAID 1 configuration,
partitioned as 8Gb (C and 26Gb (D. All data and
exchange server databases/logs are on D: drive. The page
file (fixed 1536Mb size) is on C: drive.
My problem is that the space on C: drive seems to decrease
by around 100Mb every month (around 25Mb per week). I have
been running treesize weekly on the drives since
installation to see where the space is going and Treesize
reports that disk space is always around 25Mb less than it
was the week before. However when analysing the size of
each folder individually I see that the only folders to
increase in size on a weekly basis are the WINNT\system32
folder, the BackupExec 'catalogs' folder and the Norton AV
folder. However these folders only go up by around 2Mb max
each so I am confused as to where the additional space is
being lost?
Some of the things I have done to try and find a solution
are:
1. Run a chkdsk with the /r and /f options in case Windows
is not reporting the file sizes correctly.
2. Run a defrag on the C: drive.
3. Checked the sizes of hidden files/folders (e.g. @System
Volume information' and 'C:\recycler' but the size of
these folders is literall 20Kb (the Recycle Bin is emptied
regularly!).
- Disabled Norton AV for a week to see if its Liveupdates
were causing the issue
All of the above options have not yielded a solution. I am
a bit worried that, at the current rate of consumption, we
will be out of space on C: in just over two years! We
started off with 3.5Gb free - now we have 3.2Gb free after
3 months.
Anyone have any suggestions? Treesize's number dont seem
to add up...
Many thaks in advance for any assistance.
