Do they still require you to register it to make it work?

The only Serif stuff I had for free (cover disks) required
registration, and then....the amount of spam that that company
generated was quite remarkable.

(They required a telephone number as part of the registration, and like
a naive fool I gave it to them: they started RINGING ME to flog their
upgrades. I was not pleased...)

Maybe Serif's changed their ways and don't do that any more, but I was
sufficiently annoyed the first time 'round that I'll not be risking it
again.

That's because you're viewing the page as a frame through another site.
Try this link instead:

Note however, that unless things have changed Serif will use your
registration info (usually required in order to get an activiation code
for whatever program of their's you're using) to spam the shit out of you.

Frankly, I wasn't impressed with their Photoplus program at all. There
are too many options for such programs out there and Photoplus didn't
have any unique features which I couldn't live without.

You can always use a disposable mail address (mailinator or dodgeit), the
software is pretty good.

Thank You, my ISP SBC Yahoo provides that service. Thanks again

I still get spam from Serif.

OpenOffice.org has a really nice vector drawing program that beats Serif's
offering. For home desktop publishing projects, OOo's combined WP and
drawing program is practically as good as Serif's desktop publishing
program. I no longer see a real use for any of Serif's software.

Thank you for the feedback, I did the registration using a yahoo spam
guard email address. They work like magic. Thanks again

A Serif rep posted here not too long ago. Look for this ACF thread (Feb. 2005): Subject: Free
versions of Serif software

I think there's another concern (besides spam) relating to registration. IIRC you need to obtain a
new product key from Serif every time you install one of their free apps - if Serif goes out of
business or decides not to furnish product keys you won't be able to re-install the app or install
it on a new computer. . .

Thanks Susan, I'll keep that in mind.

www.spamhole.com works for me. I know there are others around.
1 hour disposable email addy, incoming email forwarded to your real address.
Phone numbers, make 'em up as you go along.

Serif software is O.K. I suppose, in truth, it's part of the offer to get
spammed to death but it's never really bothered me much to circumvent their
activities. YMMV.

My wife has been using PagePlus and PhotoPlus for more than half a year.
She hasn't received any spam so far.

Things are far worse than that. If you change your hardware you need
to get a new registration key.

The point IS, if you register the Software they WILL send you
discounts. I SIGNED UP FOR THEIR MAILERS and ended up
getting Pageplus 8.0 PDF version for $10.00 That program is
damned near as good as QUARK EXPRESS or INDESIGN
which cost more than $1,000.00 (the 10.03 version which is current)
and I got it for 10 bucks US.

Serif is a very good company and I swear by their Desktop Publishing
software PAGEPLUS 10.03 although I still use Adobe Photoshop 7.0 for
photo manipulation.

Serif is a great company, and they give their previous editions
away so cheap it scares me that they may not stay in business.
And they should, they make good stuff at a ridiculously low price
and have EXCELLENT customer support. http://serif.com/

Sorry if any of you are offended by this post, but rest assured
I have NO financial interest in this company.

I've hit a problem with this approach. Some web sites wouldn't let me
register when I used a webmail address (in this case, myrealbox.com).
It's frustrating to work the signup page again and again, and finally
make up an address that incorporates my real ISP, and then the routine
goes through.

To sign up for Yahoo, my son and I were able to set up accounts by
originating the routines at public libraries. People with old Yahoo
accounts don't realize that Yahoo has amped up their routines -- looks
like they want to ensure that they can sock you with email ads that'll
get through.

I've been using free Serif softare and the commercial Publisher Pro
(based on PagePlus 9) for quite some time and I haven't received any
spam from Serif.
