Free PDF print drivers

I see the names of several FREE PDF printer drivers, but
invariably (so far) they all eventually beg for donations,
for some sort of free registration (nuisance-ware), etc.

Does there exist a truly free PDF Printer Driver that works
forevermore without fail and doesn't someday pop with a
questionnaire or some other hoop to jump through?

Thank you

FreePdfXP is freeware to both - private and commercial use. It depends
(as most free or nearly free programs of this kind) on Redmon (no
problem with that) and Ghostscript. If you use it commercially, you'll
need to select an appropriate Ghostscript version (GNU and not AFPL).

The website is German, only. But browsing through terms like 'Download'
should be no problem, heh? ;-) The program is multilingual. English
is included, more rare languages can be added through editing a plain
text file.

The donation link on the site is set for those, who can't understand
'no email support'. They can 'buy' it, if they *really* need it. But
the program is straightforward. A help file (German and English) is
included, and there is a FAQ on the website. If all fails, a forum
answers questions. The programmer Stefan Heinz pops in there rather
frequently.

PDFCreator is the only freeware and the best. I have used all the ones
mentioned above. While they are good freewares, pdfcreator gives me a
ton of options, like encryption and changing the title of the document
and info. CutePDF, if I remember right, did not offer this feature.

If you say so... ;-)

FreePdfXP:
- Encryption (Yes)
- Change Author name (Yes)
- Options for Graphics Resolution, CMYK->RGB conversation, ... (Yes)
- Print to *.jpeg, *.bmp, *.tiff (Yes)
- Selectable options for Fonts embedding (Yes)
- Change page orientation (Yes)
- Optional Pre- and/or Postprocessing through external programs (Yes)
- Watermarks (Requires installation of PdfTk)
- Saving specialized profiles for all the above (Yes)
- Customizable user interface (e.g. deactivation of functions) (Yes)
- Multilingual (plain text language file) (Yes)
- Send *.pdf file per email (Yes)
- Combine multiple *.pdf documents (Yes)

- Change Title (No)
- Change Info (No)

At least I don't know of an option to do this inside FreePdfXP. Maybe
with special Ghostscript options (which *can* be set). Maybe with an
external program called before or after processing.

I'd use an external program like PdfExplorer:

Ah. And FreePdfXP *is* freeware. :)

=======================

Having done a side-by-side comparison, I have discovered that
PDFCreator comes up with the best combination of ability and
features to make it my first choice. PrimoPDF consistently
made the smallest PDF file of all using the same original
material, but because it periodically pops up with a
questionnaire before it will continue further, I dropped it.

....may I ask even for more?
Anyone to know a free PDF printer, that can handle URL's as well?

Anyone to know a free PDF printer, that can handle URL's as well?

I would be surprised if there is a non-free PDF *printer* handling
clickable links. A link normally consists of 2 parts: title and
target reference string. A printer driver only gets the title. So it
doesn't know, where to direct the link to.

URL's are special cases of links where title and target are equal.
So undifferentiated conversation of all URL's to links might be
possible. But chances are high that you get unsatisfying results
because too many (seemingly URL-like) parts of the text become
links. That's why I don't think (m)any authors/firms cared to
implement this.

Clickable links are usually the result of a document *conversation*
to the *.pdf format. And in case you'll ask that next - I don't
know an appropriate free converter... ;-)

Very cool, thanks!

Anybody have any much loved PDF readers and/or editors?

I'm currently using Foxit's reader, and don't have an editor, but I
think I'm in the market for something now.
